The .404 Rimless is a balanced, first-class big game cartridge. It is suitable for hunting almost any game on earth. It can be used with good effectiveness for elephant and African buffalo, but also for boar, red deer and moose.
The cartridge was introduced by Jeffery under the designation ".404 Rimless Nitro Express" around the year 1910. The designation .404 Jeffery is also still used today. But also the metric designation 10.75 x 73 is frequently used in Europe. The bullet diameter of .423" (= 10.74 mm) is larger than with the .416 calibres.
