The 6.5 x 57 was developed as pure hunting cartridge, and is especially suitable for hunting areas with a lot of roe deer and occasional heavier game like moufflon or fallow deer.

The bullet weight ranges from the 6.0 g RWS soft-point bullet with pointed tip to the 9.1 g RWS twin-core bullet. Therewith the 6.5 x 57 covers large distances as well as short hunting distances in the woods.
