The 8 x 57 IRS is a first-class cartridge for drillings.
Since there already was an 8 x 57 IR, the next logical step was to also create a cartridge with rim for break-open rifles in addition to the 8 x 57 IS with the stronger 8 mm bullets. Well, the 8 x 57 IRS is the rimmed version of the rimless 8 x 57 IS – both were introduced in 1905.
